Quotes about Kim Patrick
Dorrance said he continues to be impressed with Patrick's strong play so early in her freshman season. "You look at her and ask, 'How
can she score goals?'," he said. "She's not fast like (Susan) Bush. With Kim, it's just all hard work and determination."

UNC coach Anson Dorrance. "Kim is a real goal-scorer, and she's certainly showing us that," Dorrance said. "Her first goal (against Connecticut) was just world-class. Tina
(Murphy) served up a good ball, and it was not an easy ball to finish. She did a great job. Kim has a real nose for the goal."
"Kim has just been awesome," senior Meredith Florance said. "She's putting them in there."
After South Bend Trip
Of course, the stellar play of freshman forward Kim Patrick has been a most pleasant surprise for Dorrance and his staff. Dorrance believed she would be good... but five goals in her first three games?
"That girl just has a soccer mind," senior midfielder Lorrie Fair said of her freshman teammate.

Despite losing Cindy Parlow and Rakel Karvelsson, UNC has discovered a hot scorer in freshman Kim Patrick, who has netted seven goals in her first five games.
"That girl is on fire," said sophomore midfielder Jena Kluegel, who competed with Patrick this past summer with the U.S. Under-18 national team in the Pan-American Games in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Player Profile "What Kim has is an incredible hunger for the goal," Dorrance said. "She has many of the same qualities as (former Tar Heel and current Texas A&M assistant coach) Robin Confer. When
Robin didn't score by halftime, she'd become agitated. If she scored a goal in the second half, she'd become agitated again until she scored a second one. "Kim is just like that, and she can score in so many
different ways. She can score with her right foot, her left foot, her head, she can score by flicking the ball, you name it. She brings an incredible new dimension to our frontline."
Dorrance believes Patrick is a natural goal-scorer. "She's happiest when she's attacking in the box," he said. "When she's in the box, that's like her day at the office. She feels right at home
fighting to score."
Wake Forest Game Murphy said she didn't even see Patrick in flight. "I just saw how many people they had on defense there (near the goal)," Murphy said. "Kim just
came out of nowhere." The three goals made by his strikers were world-class, UNC coach Anson Dorrance said. "I was very excited about those goals, because they were the kinds of goals personality
players make," he said. "They (Florance, Remy and Patrick) went right at it, carved up the defense and stuck it right in. They were all outstanding goals."

"We struggled a little at first, but we've come a long way," she said. Anne (Remy) is having just an unbelievable year, and Kim (Patrick) has played like I knew she could. I knew Kim from (U.S.) U-18 camps.
She's an impact player."
ANSON DORRANCE, UNC HEAD COACH ----- Speaking about Kim Patrick: "We are tremendously excited she decided to join us. We knew we are going to get an outstanding
player. But I'll be honest, I didn't expect her to come in her freshman year and be our leading goal scorer. Sometimes when a freshman scores a goal, she'll score a fourth goal in a 4-0 rout, and Kim, even in her first
game was scoring critical goals to either tie or beat Notre Dame. Next game, critical goals against Connecticut. You go through the history of goals she has scored this year, she's not only our leading scorer, but she
has scored some tremendously critical goals."
PAN AM GAMES "I really liked the way Kim Patrick came into the game in the second half and gave us a bit of a spark off the bench," U.S. head
coach Jay Hoffman said. "She and Marcia Wallis linked together real well and breathed life back into our attack."
Quotes by Kim:
1st Game against Notre Dame "Once I saw it take that kind of weird bounce, I just went right after it," Patrick

Notre Dame."
Player Profile "I definitely didn't expect it, but I don't mind it," Patrick said. "Actually, I really like it. The only bad thing is I'm a lot harder on myself if I don't
score. But when I score, it isn't all me. The team helps make it happen."
"I didn't want to be scared, and I know sometimes the (upperclassmen) notice if a freshman is scared," she said. "I
didn't want them to say that about me."

soccer players could really show what they're all about."

opportunity, and I took it. Heading it was the most direct way."

playing college soccer, but I didn't expect it to go this well. I couldn't have asked for anything better. It is an incredible feeling with the next game the semifinals of the College Cup."
On the transition between high school and college: "What has helped me is being able to play in the national program. I went from competing in the Pan Am Games and three days later I was at preseason practice
in North Carolina. And a lot of the goals that I scored this season aren't from one-on-one, but come from balls that teammates give me. All I had to do is knock them in."
PAN AM GAMES
On the capacity crowd. "Even though most of the crowd was for Canada, it's great to have this many people come out to see us play."
Kim Patrick (Pleasanton, Calif.) - Forward "It was a
great game. Both teams played tough, but I'm just glad we got that early goal in the first half. We wished we could've scored a little more, but it was a well-fought match. We played them before and they got a late goal
in the 44th minute, and we didn't want that to happen again this game. So we played a little smarter in the last few minutes of the game."
"This is definitely the ultimate that I've done. Winning a
gold medal, whether it be the Olympics or the Pan Ams, is just the same. It's definitely on the top of my list right now."
